still from Benjamin Bellas, 'doesn't matter...'

Benjamin Bellas, “doesn’t matter that I followed the rules, that I did everything right, doesn’t matter how well I treated you…I didn’t have what it took to fill that space…I was lacking what it was the others were able to provide you

still from Benjamin Bellas, 'I was determined...'

Benjamin Bellas, I was determined to make you love me; you were not sure about my steady approach; but I was persistent in my efforts…gaining ground with each passing moment…and finally you said it ‘I love you Benjamin, please never go away’ …and it was at that moment I set my sights on doing so… for that is what I had really wanted… the sensation of you desperately pulling me towards you while I ran away

For Bellas, sublimity is in the details; otherwise banal objects and gestures into the void become epiphanies through his subtle interventions. His work is the shooting star you’ve been waiting for all evening but missed while blinking. Emphasis is placed on the experience of creating these objects and gestures, i.e. the visual form is an artifact whose purpose is to signify the process by which the meaning of the piece is created.

Benjamin Bellas lives and works in Chicago, IL, USA. Selected Exhibitions 2006 Contemporary Artists Center, North Adams, MA /// Modern Fuel, Kingston, ON /// 2005 Gallery 2, Chicago, IL /// 2004 McLean County Arts Center, Bloomington, IN.
