Karina
Griffith & Chris Ikonomopoulos, “CONFESSIONS”
Watch
as a chance at absolution guides the morally conscious and unconscious
to clear guilt. In an attempt to see how inviting a camera and
a hand made sign can be, the streets of Ottawa become a concrete
confessional to those who are tired of keeping it to themselves.
Karina
Griffith and Chris Ikonomopoulos are both first
generation Canadians who attended a residency for young artists
at the SAW Video Cooperative in Ottawa. While there they made
a series of minute docs together called CONFESSIONS.
The project won second place in the national film competition:
Canada-The Innovation Nation, an initiative of the Canadian Embassy
in Berlin. Both Karina (now living in Berlin) and Chris continue
to work in film, video and audio. Producing, directing, editing
and soundtracking keep them both busy over countless projects.
Tina Smrekar,
“Always Smile”
This
video follows a souvenir girl at the largest “Volksfest”
in the world—the Oktoberfest in Munich. Smrekar asks what
we are prepared to do and endure in order to survive... always
smile.
Tina
Smrekar is a Ljubljana, Slovenia-based artist and photographer.
She has received an MA in Photography from the Academy of Visual
Arts Leipzig, Germany. She has had several exhibitions around
Europe and is the recipient of a DAAD Award, a Vermont Studio
Fellowship Award, as well as the Artist-in-Residence Award from
KulturKontakt Austria. She works in photography, video, and installation.
